Really Cool, Useful Websites That Inspired Me To Create This Website

This is a list of the really cool websites which inspired me to create this particular website. All of these sites are useful, cool websites that interested me, made me laugh, educated me, entertained me, or otherwise inspired me to create this website. All of these websites are better than mine, but I have high hopes for the future.

The Best Page in the Universe - This is a humor site. It's obnoxious, off-color, and offensive. It's also probably the funniest site on the Internet. I'm not so much inspired by most of the content as amused by it, although some of the stuff, like his rant about his experience with Orbitz, is exactly the kind of thing the Internet should be used for - exposing the stupid ways some business conduct themselves on an almost constant basis. The other thing about the site that I like is the pure unadulterated opinionated-ness of it. Maddox doesn't mince words at all, not even a little bit.

Cockeyed - I found this site through a link or a mention on Michael Bluejay's site, which I discuss below. (These sites are listed according to their official name and are in alphabetical order.) I don't know how "useful" this website is, but it's certainly "cool". At the time of this writing, they feature over 40 different "how much is inside" articles, which measure things like how much actual fruit is found in a cup of yogurt or how many pieces of pepperoni can be found in a pizza hot pocket. The site also features several photo albums which include insightful and funny commentary on stuff like the point of sale aisle at Fry's Electronics, which really is a ridiculous thing to go through. Mostly, Cockeyed is just plain interesting and fun.

John T. Reed - This is a really cool real estate focused website, but it also covers information about success, football coaching, baseball coaching, and self-publishing. Reed also recently added a section where he writes about current events. John Reed is an author and self-publisher, and honestly, most of his books are better-written, more entertaining, more useful, and more entertaining than anything you'll find at Amazon or at Barnes and Noble. His real estate guru evaluation page inspired me to write about my experiences with various businesses. In his "Why I Created and Maintain This Page" article, Reed mentions that he read a book about the Internet which suggested creating pages like his guru rating page. He says that he's urged his readers to also create pages to rate businesses they've worked with describing their good and bad experiences. That's a section of this site that I hope to expand upon shortly.

Michael Bluejay - I found Michael Bluejay's useful, cool website by accident. Michael is the webmaster for the Wizard of Odds, which is a really great website written by Michael Shackleford, a mathematician and gambling expert. From the Wizard's site, I found Bluejay's personal site, which is an example of what I'd like this site to eventually become. Bluejay offers consumer guides, green advice, Internet tips for surfers AND webmasters, bicycling info, an Austin city guide, and lots of other cool almost seemingly random stuff. Some of the "sections" of MichaelBluejay.com branch off onto their own domains, but his homepage serves as a great hub for all of his stuff. And did I mention that Michael Bluejay is a really talented writer too?

Vaughn's Summaries - On the "about us" page at Vaughn's summaries, you'll read that the site is meant to be a general reference site. But this is no Wikipedia or Answers.com clone. He calls the site a "mini-encyclopedia", and the site's goal is to offer succinct, one page summaries of information and facts on a variety of subjects. The information on the site is categorized broadly into sections for arts, entertainment, geography, language, Google, religion, science, sports, philosophy, etc. Some of the pages on his site are just plain funny too, like his page about how to watch tv. At any rate, if you're looking for succinct and interesting information on a particular subject, you could find a worse place to look for it than at Vaughn's summaries.

Xenite - This is a science fiction and fantasy website with hundreds and maybe even thousands of pages on a wide range of subjects. The word "Xenite" refers to a fan of Xena: Warrior Princess, but in no way does the owner and operator of this site limit himself to just adding content about that particular show. A quick glance through the content featured from the Xenite homepage will make it clear that the site also covers subjects as diverse as huckleberries, Battlestar Galactica, various news related to individual celebrities, and search engine optimization. Xenite is a really cool website and inspired me to build this website by demonstrating just how diverse the content on a single website could be.
