About Randy's Guides

Randy RayI've been a professional webmaster now for several years, and I've written and designed websites on a variety of subjects. But there are a lot of other subjects I'm interested in that I haven't written about yet, and I decided that a central site with all of my new writings would be easier to manage and might even be more fun than my old approach of building a lot of small sites on narrow topics. This new site is a collection of information, facts, and reference, written from a specific perspective, mine.

So basically, this page is a gateway or portal to all of my newest websites. The links on the left are links to my guides to various subjects, and they almost always include links to dozens or even 100's of additional pages on that topic. My goal when writing a new guide to something is to make it entertaining, informative, and useful. I'm only writing reference guides on subjects that I'm interested in here.

I'm a big fan of uber-simple website design, so the minimalist approach I've taken to building these fact pages was a conscious choice. This isn't meant to be the prettiest website you've ever seen, but it should load fast, and it should also be easy to find the information that you're looking for.

About Randy Ray

Randy Ray (that's me) was born in Omaha, Nebraska, but I got to Texas as fast as I could. (I was 3 days old when I arrived in Bonham, Texas, where I grew up.) I was lucky enough to spend my entire young life going to the same schools with the same people. When I turned 18, I moved to Denton, Texas to go to school at the University of North Texas, where I got a degree in Literature.

I've worked at the following companies:

  • The Bonham Dairy Queen (It's not there anymore.)
  • The Denton Long John Silvers (It's not there anymore either.)
  • American Telemarketing Specialists (I've heard that it's not there anymore either, but it might have just moved. I haven't kept up.)
  • Olan Mills Portrait Studio (I was an area manager over telemarketing activities. None of the 8 stores I worked at are still open. I only worked there for a year)
  • Hotels.com (Still doing very well, thanks very much. I might have had a little bit to do with that, since I spent almost 10 years there.)
  • The Dallas Observer (I briefly sold classified ads there, for a few months.)

I now live in Wylie, Texas with my wife and 3 kids. I work from home, where I own and operate several websites.

I have a wide range of interests, including:

  • Movies
  • TV
  • Books
  • Restaurants
  • Investing
  • SEO
  • Web design
  • Politics
  • Juggling
